THE INVERTED BRAID TECHNIQUE

The inverted braid technique creates a sporty yet feminine look that is great for those who want to take the hair back off their face. This style will really bring out the facial features of the client and extenuate the bone structure, creating a strong, bold editorial look.

The detail in the hair is complemented by using a cocktail of styling products from the hybrid Dark Oil collection, which are great for prepping the hair for a number of styling possibilities, giving the client the best possible salon experience.

Here’s how you can incorporate inverted braids into your look:

Here’s how you can incorporate inverted braids into your look:

Step 1

Prep the hair with Dark Oil Shampoo and Dark Oil Conditioner
Mix Shine Crafter with a few drops of the Dark Oil hero product to give you a little bit of shine and polish as you work it through the hair. Dark oil is so versatile that it can be cocktailed with any product from our line-up without taking away its effect - it only extenuates and enhances its performance.

Step 2

Split the hair into small sections, using the hairline as a reference point.
Starting at the front of the head, work these sections up into the back of the head using a braiding technique to create multiple raised inverted sections of hair. Secure each one with a rubber band.
The sections of braided hair should come up to the same point at the back of the crown, as if you were to form a ponytail with them.

Step 3

If you want to really make a statement, add in small pieces of red hair to create a contrasting, impactful look against the natural hair colour, without it being overpowering.
When combining the red with the natural hair, use Shine Crafter to help saturate and moisturise the hair, making it more controllable to work with while creating detail and forming a futuristic feminine look.
