What is Dark Oil?

What is Dark Oil?

The label might say styling oil, but Dark Oil is actually a hybrid product that mixes care and styling properties in one bottle. This lightweight oil will smoothen the hair and the cuticles, but also strengthen it from the inside, keeping body to the hair. It’s formulated with a luxurious blend of natural oils like sandalwood, cedar wood and argan, and our unique DiffusX technology; this helps the oil disappear into the hair without leaving the slightest residue, and to create a weightless texture.

Clients will instantly be taken by its mesmerising scent and will see immediate results thanks to the added shine, so don’t let your clients leave the salon without it.

How to give a Dark Oil salon service

Dark Oil is a great base for styling hair, either dry or wet, because of its gel-like texture that attaches particularly well to hair. By using Dark Oil along with a mousse, you will have a great styling base that gives strength to the hair, whilst keeping it soft.

Watch Shay Dempsey, Sebastian Professional Creative Artist, demonstrate how to take a short hair look to the next level with Dark Oil, in order to give more dimension to the colour:

Look 1: Wrap cutting long hair with Dark Oil

Dark Oil is not just a finishing oil, it can be used at any point of the creative process. Here’s how you can use Dark Oil with the wrap cutting technique on long hair:

Look 1: Wrap cutting long hair with Dark Oil

Step 1

Apply Dark Oil Styling Oil to aid the blade glide on the hair. Divide the hair into 4 parts, with a central section from the forehead to the nape and from the top of the head down to the front of both ears. Keeping a very low elevation, take diagonal sections and wrap the hair from below the ear to the opposite side at the corner back and cut using the skimming cutting technique with the blade. Repeat the same technique throughout the sides.

Step 2

Moving to the fringe, subdivide it into two for more control. Cut with the pinching and skimming cutting technique and alternate by cutting with the heel or the toe of the blade, to create an uneven and irregular effect that blends with the rest of the cut.

STEP 3

Blow-dry with a round brush to perfect the texture. Finish off with your hands and a touch of Dark Oil Silkening Fragrant Mist.

Look 2: How to create waves with Dark Oil

If a client is looking for sophisticated, magazine-worthy waves, spray some Dark Oil Silkening Fragrant Mist to make the waves silkier and amp up the shine:

Look 2: How to create waves with Dark Oil

Step 1

Section the hair into 4 parts: 2 at the front from the top of the head to below the ear and 2 at the back from the middle. Spray Shaper Zero Gravity to allow you to manipulate the hair throughout the styling process. Taking the cheekbones as a reference point, work section after section and create an irregular movement with a two barrelled heater tool keeping a symmetrical silhouette in mind.

Step 2

Gently brush out each individual section using a paddle brush and pull out the hair to create an airy texture.

Step 3

Lightly spray Dark Oil Silkening Fragrant Mist all over to create a beautiful lightweight shine and a silkier hair surface. Finish off with Zero Gravity and exaggerate the shape!

Look 3: Wrap cutting short hair with Dark Oil

If you want to transform short hair into a wearable look with a street style finish, try the wrap cutting technique and enhance the look with Dark Oil. You can work with the texture to manipulate the hair and allow it to move. Watch the tutorial and follow Angelo Valilo’s tips:

Look 3: Wrap cutting short hair with Dark Oil

Step 1

Section the hair from the curvature of the head down to just below the occipital bone and create an undercut with the thinning shears. This will give you a feminine look and cashmere feel.

Step 2

Proceed to the fringe. Create a triangle section at the top of the head with reference points – the top of each ear and the highest point of the head. Working section by section using the vertical skimming cutting technique, create a vertical length just above the eyebrows from the middle of the face. Work this way on both sides by over directing each section to the middle to create a curvature in the fringe.

Step 3

Apply a texturizing spray like Texture Maker at the root area to create a “dirty” grippy texture and Dark Oil Styling Oil on the mid-lengths and ends to give a natural shine while keeping body in the hair, but without compromising on the texture. Using a comb then a paddle brush, directionally wrap-dry the hair to create the desired shape.
